A Trevose Head Proposal in Cornwall | Cornwall Engagement and Proposal Photographer


There’s something pretty special about photographing a proposal in Cornwall. You never quite know how the weather will behave, the coastline always gives you something different, and even the best-laid proposal plans can sometimes go slightly off script, That was certainly the case for Benedikt and Chiara’s Trevose Head proposal.


Benedikt got in touch with me a few weeks before their trip to Cornwall, sharing their holiday plans and letting me know that somewhere along the way, he was hoping to ask Chiara to marry him. We chatted through a few different options, including places like St Michael’s Mount and Godrevy, before eventually settling on Trevose Head jsut outside of Padstow. As it was going to be early on in their holiday, it meant Benedikt could enjoy the rest of their trip together without having the proposal hanging over him for the entire week, although I imagine he was still feeling pretty nervous!

Planning the Proposal at Trevose Head


Trevose Head is one of those locations that doesn't necessarily need a sentimental connection to make it special. Sometimes, you simply need somewhere incredibly beautiful which it is just that. With dramatic cliffs, open sea views and the lighthouse sitting out on the headland, it makes a fantastic backdrop for a proposal, or an engagement shoot. It's also close to Padstow, making it a great option for couples staying in the area and looking for somewhere a little more wild and coastal.


The plan was fairly simple. Benedikt and Chiara would head out around Trevose Head, I'd be somewhere nearby pretending not to be a photographer waiting for the right moment, and Benedikt would find the perfect opportunity to propose. However, things don't always go exactly to plan even when the proposal spot was meticulously planned prior with a trip to the spot the week before with videos sent and explained.

The Proposal


The weather was typically Cornish; cloudy skies, plenty of atmosphere with a small break in the clouds as the sun began to set. Everything was going well until Benedikt slightly missed the mark on where we had planned for the proposal to happen with some very quick improvisation on my part as he was now 15-20m further away than originally planned.


Rather than standing where I'd originally planned to be, I found myself having to get much lower to the ground and, at one point, quite literally crawling across the ground to get into position without being spotted. It was one of those moments where you're trying to concentrate on taking photographs while simultaneously hoping you don't become the most suspicious-looking person on the headland.


And, for a moment, I thought I'd completely blown it. I was convinced Chiara had spotted my head popping up over the hill while I was attempting to crawl into position. Thankfully, she hadn't worked out what was going on, and Benedikt was able to carry on with the proposal. The moment itself was brilliant, and the three of us couldn't stop laughing about the whole situation afterwards.


Thankfully, the slightly chaotic start made for a pretty memorable proposal story, and some photographs that I'm sure they'll enjoy looking back on for years to come.

Exploring Trevose Head After the Proposal


Once the nerves had settled and the question had been answered, we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the evening. We spent around an hour exploring the headland together, photographing Benedikt and Chiara against the Cornish coastline and making the most of the changing light.


The clouds started to break slightly as the sun began to set, giving us some really beautiful, soft evening light and the lighthouse at Trevose Head made an obvious feature throughout the shoot, giving the photographs that unmistakable Cornwall feel. We eventually finished up with views towards Constantine Bay in the background, making the most of the coastline before calling it a night.


What I love about photographing proposals like this is that once the actual proposal is over, the experience becomes much more relaxed. The pressure is gone, the couple can finally celebrate, and we can just explore and take photographs without worrying about the secrecy anymore.

Trevose Head Proposal Photographer


If you're planning a proposal in Cornwall, Trevose Head is a brilliant option if you're looking for incredible scenery. The headland offers plenty of variety within a relatively small area, from the lighthouse and rugged cliffs to wide-open sea views and the beaches around Constantine Bay. It's also a great choice for couples staying around Padstow and on the north Cornwall coast.


And if you're worried about everything going perfectly, don't be. Benedikt's proposal certainly didn't go exactly according to plan, but that's what made it so memorable. A little improvisation and plenty of laughter afterwards all became part of their story. Most importantly, Chiara said yes.
