Holywell Bay Proposal Photographer | Kamran & Adina's Surprise Proposal in Cornwall

When it comes to planning a surprise proposal, choosing the right location can make all the difference. As a Cornwall proposal photographer, I've photographed engagements across the county, but Holywell Bay remains one of my favourite places to recommend. The dramatic coastline, sweeping dunes and unforgettable sunsets create the perfect setting for one of life's biggest moments.

Kamran got in touch several weeks before his trip to Cornwall with plans to propose to Adina. He already had a few ideas in mind, but after discussing different locations together, I suggested the secluded clifftops at the northern end of Holywell Bay as this if a firm favourite. They offer incredible sea views, complete privacy and some of the most beautiful golden-hour light anywhere on the Cornish coast.

Planning a Surprise Proposal at Holywell Bay

One of the biggest parts of my job as a proposal photographer in Cornwall happens long before I even pick up my camera. For Kamran's proposal, I visited the location beforehand and created a detailed guide showing exactly where to park, the walking route through the dunes and the precise proposal spot. The walk takes around twenty minutes, so having clear directions helped everything run smoothly and kept any last-minute nerves to a minimum.

I also worked with wedding planner Natalie Blake to choose the perfect location. Together we found a quiet area surrounded by tall grasses overlooking the Atlantic and It offered complete privacy while still showcasing the incredible Cornish coastline. Natalie brought along some fresh petals, candles and more decor to really make it special.

Before Kamran set off, I shared a few simple tips that make a huge difference in the final photographs: keep phones out of pockets, remove sunglasses, place bags on the ground and, perhaps most importantly, make sure the ring box opens the right way!

Capturing the Surprise

To avoid drawing attention, I dressed in shorts and a cap with my camera over my shoulder and I simply looked just like another tourist making the most of a summer evening at Holywell Bay, and who would blame me.

As Kamran and Adina reached the viewpoint, the timing couldn't have been better. The golden-hour light was washing across the cliffs and the sea beyond as Kamran got down on one knee. The emotion was immediate. Those first few moments after a proposal are impossible to recreate, which is why I always photograph them from a distance before introducing myself. It allows couples to stay completely in the moment while I quietly document every smile, hug and happy tear.

Engagement Photos Around Holywell Bay

Once the excitement had settled, we spent time exploring everything Holywell Bay has to offer. We started on the clifftops, making the most of the panoramic coastal views before walking down through the dunes onto the beach. Holywell Bay is one of those rare locations where every direction offers another incredible backdrop, from the rolling sand dunes to the dramatic cliffs and the famous Gul Rocks rising from the sea.

As the sun dropped lower, the beach became even more beautiful. The warm summer light reflected across the sand while the waves rolled gently onto the shoreline, creating the perfect setting for relaxed, natural engagement photographs. Rather than heavily posing couples, I encourage movement and conversation, allowing genuine moments to unfold naturally. The result is a gallery that feels authentic and tells the story of the evening exactly as it happened.

One moment that has stayed with me happened right at the end of the session. As Adina stood quietly watching the sunset, Kamran came over to thank me for helping bring everything together. After weeks of planning, seeing them simply enjoying that moment together was the perfect way to end the evening.
