Cornwall Proposal Photographer | Fistral Beach Surprise Proposal

There aren't many places in Cornwall that are as iconic as Fistral Beach. With its sweeping coastline, rolling Atlantic waves and dramatic clifftops, it's no surprise that so many couples choose it for life's biggest moments. When Vic got in touch a couple of weeks before his trip to Cornwall, he knew he wanted to propose somewhere overlooking Fistral Beach. The only challenge was finding the perfect spot.

His original plan was to propose on the beach itself, as Fistral was where they had enjoyed their very first date together. It couldn't have been a more meaningful location, but proposing during the height of the summer season meant the beach was guaranteed to be busy. With crowds, surfers and holidaymakers everywhere, I suggested a quieter location just around the headland overlooking Little Fistral.

A Surprise Proposal Above Fistral Beach

With everything planned, I made my way up to the grassy bank near The Headland Hotel carpark, where I could keep a discreet eye on the clifftop without being spotted. Kim had no idea I was there and thats exactly how I like things to work out. Dressed in inconspicuous cloths I blended in like any other holidaymaker.

Although Vic's original plan had been to propose on Fistral Beach itself, I knew the summer crowds would make it difficult to find a quiet spot, but even after moving it to the headland, there was one small challenge. A few people had chosen the exact spot we had planned the proposal, busy taking selfies and admiring the view. After politely asking a local fisherman to ask them for me if they wouldn't mind moving for just a couple of minutes, everything was finally in place.

From my hiding spot, I watched as Vic and Kim slowly wandered towards the cliff edge, and when the moment felt right, Vic dropped down onto one knee and asked the question he'd been planning for weeks. Kim said yes, and the smiles on their faces said it all.

A Relaxed Engagement Shoot at Little Fistral

After taking a few moments to soak everything in, we wandered down towards Little Fistral for a relaxed engagement session. Before the proposal, Vic had mentioned that Kim was seven months pregnant, with their baby due in just a couple of months. Because of that, I suggested tailoring my usual proposal package to suit them perfectly. Rather than spending hours exploring different locations, we kept things simple with an hour of photography, allowing them to enjoy the moment without too much walking around.

It was absolutely the right decision. The whole session felt relaxed, natural and completely focused on celebrating such an exciting chapter in their lives, and I honestly don't think there was a single moment where either of them stopped smiling.

A Proposal They'll Never Forget

Not only were Vic and Kim celebrating their engagement, but they were also counting down the final weeks until welcoming their first baby together. so we made sure to capture some maternity style photos also. It made the afternoon feel even more meaningful, capturing two huge milestones at exactly the same time. These are the moments I love photographing most. Genuine emotion, real reactions and memories that will become part of a family's story for years to come.
