Godrevy Beach Engagement Photographer | Vic & Luke

There are some locations in Cornwall that just make sense for an engagement shoot, and Godrevy Beach is definitely one of them. With its huge stretch of golden sand, beautiful coastline and, of course, Godrevy Lighthouse sitting just offshore, it is one of my favourite places around St Ives Bay to photograph families, couples and surfing.

Vic and Luke travelled down from Bath for their engagement shoot ahead of their wedding at Pennard House in Somerset in 2027. They wanted somewhere beautiful for their photos, and with Godrevy Lighthouse being one of the most stunning landmarks in the UK, it felt like the perfect choice.

An October engagement shoot at Godrevy Beach

Although this was an October shoot, you really wouldn't have known it. The weather felt more like summer, with beautiful light and warm enough conditions to spend plenty of time exploring the beach without worrying about the usual October chill. We were also lucky enough to have a really low tide, which gave us loads of space to work with and meant we could make the most of the beach before heading up into the longer grass overlooking the lighthouse.

This is one of the things I love about photographing at Godrevy. You can get such a variety of images without having to go far. One minute you're walking along the sand with the sea behind you, and a short while later you're surrounded by long grass with Godrevy Lighthouse sitting in the distance.

Relaxed, natural engagement photography in Cornwall

I always want my engagement shoots to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Being in front of a camera can feel strange at first, especially if you're not used to having your photo taken and the last thing I want is for a couple to feel like they're constantly being told where to stand, and to guide them instinctively instead. I like to keep things moving, play games, have a laugh and give couples things to do rather than simply asking them to pose.

The more comfortable you become, the less you think about the camera. And that's when the best photographs happen.

With Vic and Luke, we spent the shoot walking, talking and having fun rather than worrying about getting every photo "perfect". Those little moments between the photographs are often where the magic happens — the laughs, the looks at each other and all the completely natural interactions that you can't really pose.

From Bath to Cornwall

Being from Bath myself, I love that Vic and Luke travelled all the way for their engagement shoot to spend time at the coast. Cornwall has a way of drawing people down here, and I get to photograph couples travelling from all over the UK and Europe who want something a little different for their engagement photos.

For Vic and Luke, this was a chance to spend some time together in a beautiful location before their wedding at Pennard House in Somerset next year.

Their wedding will obviously be a very different setting to a coastal engagement shoot at Godrevy, but that's one of the great things about engagement sessions, they give you the opportunity to create photographs that aren't necessarily connected to your wedding venue.

You can choose somewhere that means something to you, somewhere you've always loved visiting, or simply somewhere that looks incredible.

Photographing Vic & Luke at Godrevy Beach

What I enjoyed most about Vic and Luke's shoot was how relaxed the whole afternoon felt. Starting down on the beach with the tide out gave us a huge amount of space before we gradually made our way towards the long grass overlooking the lighthouse. The October weather gave us beautiful conditions, and the summer-like feel made it very easy to forget that we were actually well into autumn. This is exactly how I want engagement photography to feel. Not stiff. Not overly posed. And definitely not like you're spending an hour being told to smile at the camera. Just two people spending time together, having fun and exploring somewhere beautiful.

That's also the same approach I bring to wedding photography. My aim is always to make people feel comfortable enough to forget I'm there. When you relax, the photographs become more natural. And when you're having fun, that comes across in every image.
