Newquay Engagement Photographer | Brogan & Jerome

As a Newquay Engagement Photographer, I’m always looking for locations that feel relaxed, natural, and a little bit special; and Polly Joke Beach is exactly that. I suggested this spot to Brogan and Jerome not just for its quiet beauty, but for the chance of spotting seals along the coastline and to avoid the strong winds Cornwall has to offer. It’s one of those hidden corners of Cornwall where everything slows down.

They were down in Cornwall to finalise plans for their wedding this July at the St Ives Harbour Hotel, and brought their son along with them, which made the whole shoot feel even more personal as I gave him a Poloroid and he was able to get involved with the shoot too. This wasn’t just an engagement session, it was a snapshot of their life as a family, exactly as it is right now and they couldn't have been more grateful.

It was one of those classic Cornish days with Bright mid-day sun and a fair bit of wind rolling on to the sea.

Not the “perfect” conditions on paper, but honestly, it didn’t matter. They embraced it completely, and that’s what made it. Windswept hair, big skies, and plenty of laughter; they just enjoyed the moment, and you can feel that in the photos.

We spent the time walking along the beach, letting everything unfold naturally. No awkward posing, no pressure with space to be themselves. Their little boy running ahead, laughter carried on the sea air, and those quiet in-between moments that often mean the most. It’s the same relaxed approach I bring to all my engagement shoots in Cornwall and weddings throughout the year.

And then, just as I was about to say goodbye, we were lucky enough to spot 3 seals out on the water which is something this area is known for, especially around Crantock. It was one of those unplanned moments that couldn’t be staged, and that’s exactly what makes shoots like this so special as there was no promises on seeing the seals.

Some shoots feel less like work and more like time spent with good people; this was one of them.

As a Cornwall wedding photographer, these are the moments I’m always drawn to; the real ones. The ones you don’t script, but remember. By the end of it, it didn’t feel like a photoshoot at all; just a walk, a conversation, and time spent together in a beautiful place jsut down the road from home.

I can’t wait to photograph their wedding later this year at the St Ives Harbour Hotel; if this shoot is anything to go by, it’s going to be an incredible day.
