I recently met up with Paul and Scott for their engagement shoot in Newquay, ahead of their wedding at The Headland Hotel this September. With the hotel sitting proudly on Cornwall's rugged north coast, it made sense to stay close to the venue and make the most of the incredible scenery that surrounds it.


Paul and Scott are the sort of couple who bring plenty of energy wherever they go. They love making the most of life, whether that's travelling, attending festivals, enjoying carnival celebrations or spending time with friends. It was great to spend a couple of hours with them before the wedding and get to know them a little better.

Gaining confidence in front of the camera is exactly why we did this shoot, and it worked!


When we arrived, the weather was definitely testing us. The wind was strong, making some of the more exposed locations around Newquay a little challenging. Knowing the area well, I suggested we make use of the headland overlooking Newquay Bay where we could find a bit more shelter while still taking advantage of the fantastic coastal views. It turned out to be the perfect solution, with dramatic skies, crashing waves and plenty of opportunities to capture some relaxed portraits.


As the session went on, the wind eventually eased enough for us to make our way down to Little Fistral Beach. It's one of my favourite spots around Newquay and a great location for engagement photos. With the conditions settling slightly, we were able to finish the shoot on the beach, making the most of the evening light and stunning Cornish coastline.

One of the things that attracted Paul and Scott to The Headland Hotel was everything the venue has to offer beyond the wedding itself, including the chance to experience The Ugly Butterfly restaurant. Combined with its spectacular location overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it's easy to see why they chose it for their celebration.


I'm really looking forward to photographing Paul and Scott's wedding at The Headland Hotel later this year. If their engagement shoot is anything to go by, it's going to be a fantastic day filled with plenty of laughter, great company and some unforgettable moments.
